VIRUAL ART??!!

Next Wednesday, the whole school are having an art day so we can spruce up the corridoors, classrooms and hall. We need to link our 2D art, to our inquiry theme.
Mrs Gurney was inspired by some images of virus cells on the internet, (strange!), so we are going to be creating our masterpieces in water colour. Don't panic, Mrs Gurney has taught us how to use pallet water colours so that the result is vibrant.
If our fortnightly muffin rewards start looking like viruses - we know Mrs Gurney has taken it a step too far - that's really integrating!

It's a Hoedown Throw Down!

Our current PE unit is Dance, so in Room Six, we are learning the Hoedown Throw Down by Miley Cyrus! Strange choice Mrs Gurney, we know, but it does fit into our Full Team Assembly Item for next week's assembly. Watch this space for a video of us during the performance. OR come and see us live in the Roslyn School Hall at 2:15 on Friday June 18th.

Wall Wisher - Our Pandemic Wonderings

The Six Mix have been Inquiring about Natural Disasters this Term. We've taken a look at the "normal" disasters which cause civil emergencies, and have built up a good bank of knowledge about them.
Our Inquiry took a new turn a few weeks ago, and we are now Inquiring into Pandemics.

We are developing a Deep Undersanding about how pandemics in the past, have shaped our understanding of and preparedness for a pandemic in the future.

Mrs Gurney learned about 'Wall Wisher' at an ICT Teacher Only Day on Tuesday, and we have posted some 'stickies' on our online wall.

Our next step is to sort, group and piroritise these for the next step in our Inquiry.

Enjoy reading our questions - some of which we need to change into open ended, Higher Order Thinking questions!

Click on the the 'Pandemic - What a Disaster' link above to visit our virtual wonderwall. Pretty Nifty!

Update from Miss Chan.

Hi Mrs Gurney and Room 6,

I hope you don't mind I dropped by to give you an update.
I'm busy as usual completing assignments and I go on practical again in another two weeks to a different school. I haven't found out what school just yet, but it can't be as good as Roslyn School :P.

Room 6 and Room 20 swimming at the Freyberg Pools.

Wicked Week 3!

Another week GONE before our eyes! We have had a blast on the computers this week. Che, Rakshay, Caleb, Shaelin and Jahron did a stunning job creating a Power Point presentation about our Super Star Core Culture value of Self Control. They presented this in team assembly on Tuesday morning as education and motivation for the week's focus. If we can teach ourselves how, we will link their presentation to this page so you too can view it!
Miss Chan has carried on teaching small groups of learners how to graph on 'Excel'. There are some great graphs glued into maths books. We discovered through the graphing, that we eat very healthly at 'Snacktivate', with fresh fruit being the most popular choice to munch on.
Swimming started on Wednesday. It's been fun getting out and down to Freyberg Pool. A logistical challenge teaching some 60 students with varying swimming ability - but a challenge we have succeed at so far. Watch out for the stunning kids who are aiming for the awesome What Now swimming challenge bands. We'll keep you posted!

Coming to this page tomorrow - blogs created by Room 6 students! Enjoy meeting The Six Mix!

Hello everybody,

My name is Miss Chan and I am currently studying at the College of Education doing a one year graduate course in Primary Teaching. I have been working with Mrs. Gurney in Room 6 at Roslyn School since Thursday last week and have really enjoyed the experience!

I have done so much over the past week and a half, I have been taking small groups to work with on Excel, I helped Caleb, Che, Shaelin, Jahron and Rakshay create a Powerpoint presentation about 'Self-control' and I also went along with Room 6 and Room 20 to the Freyberg Swimming Pools to help assess their swimming skills and to help them learn new skills.

Unfortunately, today is my last day here at Roslyn School, but 'I'll be back' (as Arnold Schwarzenegger (the terminator) would say).

I look forward to seeing you all again in May :)

Miss Chan.
HI!

My name is Shaelin and this is my 3rd year in a row that I have a new teacher - her name is Mrs Gurney.
We have had another teacher in our class, her name is Miss Chan, and she is a student
teacher from Massey University.
This year is going to be the BEST!

Shaelin

WELCOME MISS CHAN

This week, The Six Mix welcomes Miss Chan to our class. Miss Chan is a Graduate Student at the College of Education, and is on her first teaching posting with us until next Friday. Some of us have been lucky to work with Miss Chan on the computers, graphing class data using 'Xcel'. Next week, other groups of students will get to work with Miss Chan making Power Point presentations about our Team Core Culture.
WELCOME MISS CHAN. We look forward to some awesome work with you next week.
